#Highland high school gym upgrade
The first phase of this re-development plan, the Title IX Gymnasium Upgrade initially focused on limited interior remodel projects to address Title IX deficiencies. During the programing phase it was determined that the 1940’s building, with patchwork renovations and additions dating back to the 60’s needed a more thorough treatment to fix major infrastructure and building problems. With the intent to consolidate the campus and update the facilities, SMPC developed a plan for this multi-phased effort which was approved by the APS Board in November of 2015. In the 1980s came the performing arts center, new gym floor, bleachers, auditorium and a greenhouse. The design team identified necessary renovations, additions, and construction sequencing. The plan aims to centralize programs and facilities to the main campus, respecting the historic elements of the iconic buildings while creating a 21st Century urban campus. In collaboration with Highland High School, Albuquerque Public Schools Facilities Design + Construction, and Albuquerque Public Schools Capital Master Plan, SMPC created a master plan for the re-development of the Highland High School campus.
